Ren Faire '06!

    Thursday, March 22, 2007, 01:26 PM [General]

This year I visited the Faire a grand total of three times. And let me tell you, there were interesting goings-on on all my visits. I would love to enlighten you on all that went on, but let's just say some of the things that go on at the Faire stay at the Faire. But let me tell you what I can tell you.

    Saturday October 7th
No less than twenty individuals came together for merriment and random frolicking on this first day of Faire for us. Most were veterans of the Faire (me included, of course) but we got the rare treat of taking a few newbies with us (also known as Faire virgins); six in total. As well as a few who had missed a couple years who were very excited about going once again.

The usual random amusement took place once at the Faire. We watched our favorite shows-The Bold and Stupid men (which Ina (Thom's (the duck) mom) had been chosen to be fought over at), the belly dancers, Moonie-and did our favorite things-dancing, skipping through the Faire, talking to random people. All was well and good.

But then-perhaps because we're all so used to the Faire nowadays-we started to do more random things. Things we have never done before. For instance, we decided to try and con people out of their money (as a joke, of course) by Thom standing on a bale of hay and juggling (which he is a wonderful juggler) and I standing on the side of him ringing the large bell I had around my neck and yelling out: "Juggling duck! Come see the juggling duck!" (For you see he had a leather duck's beak fastened on over his nose. It was a masquerade themed Faire this weekend.). We had Swiry walk up and start to watch him, as if she didn't know us nor us her. She slipped some money into his hat he had placed on the ground and they began to talk. And as seeing as how Swiry was wearing cat ears on her head it provoked Thom to tell her not to bite him, which of course she did, making him drop his juggling balls. She went over and picked them up apologizing and he seemed to forgive her rather quickly. That is until he started "juggling" once more. He went perhaps two passes and then started throwing them at Swiry, laughing all the while! I instantly changed my chanting: "Offended duck! Come see the offended duck!" It was rather hilarious if I do say so myself, as well as providing a bit of entertainment for those standing around in the food lines.

Many other things of this nature occurred during the whole of the Faire. Thom asking whether people in line were going to order duck for lunch, we starting a peasant pile which grew to about 12 people (until the parade came), Swiry and I meowing at people passing by. Oh! And then all the free things Sabrina was given! First she helped out a lovely young woman to fasten some bells around her waist who worked at the Faire in a snack booth, which later gave Sabrina a free tamale. Then she received a pin for being, well, to put it quite simply a "goddess in a bodice". I'm sure she even got a free drink from someone and then towards the end of the day someone bought her (or rather us) a gyro. We, of course, gave him three cheers for such a kind act.

Then even when the Faire was done and we went out for dinner, the craziness didn't end. We still had the crazy Faire juice pumping through our veins (no it wasn't ale you silly heads!). And wouldn't you know it, they seated us in a table in the middle of a whole bunch of people. They must have thought we were nuts, but we had fun! Then after coming back home and dropping off a few of my car-mates we drove by some swings and since we had been disappointed they had closed up the swings at the Faire we decided to stop and swing for a while. And yes, we were still all very dressed up. It was a nice way to end the day.

    Sunday October 8th
There were only four of us who purchased the new weekend pass for this year's Faire, but that didn't mean we had any less fun. The day started out with me and Jess waiting for Becca and Shalice to get a ticket, so of course we decided to do something random. I squatted besides her and started purring and meowing at passersby, all the while she asked if anyone would "like to pet my kitty." We actually got a few to pet me, it was odd, but so very funny at the time. One lady even came up and said "Oh! It's soft!" I had thought she was talking about my cat ears but it was my hair she said was soft. That made me very happy.

The day continued on with fun and frolicking. Becca bought some pirate handcuffs, which we had some fun with (not like that you sicko!). And we found a random hat shop that had extremely random hats for sale, so we of course had to try some on. At another store we found a very awesome Arabian sword and Jessa balanced it on her head like a belly dancer, then she did a little belly dancing. She got a free bell out of it too! Then we attended a hand-binding ceremony-which is basically a wedding-right there at the Faire. It was one of the most interesting weddings I've ever been to. The questions asked and the vows were very different, but so very accurate.

Then came the scavenger hunt....It was fun. That's all I'm gonna say. =P

Towards the end of the day we found the beginnings of a peasant pile and we just had to join! This one grew to about fifteen individuals at one point, perhaps more. It was quite fun and relaxing laying there in the middle of the Faire grounds for all to see. Countless numbers of pictures were taken of us all while we were just laying there. Oh, and the very best part of it all was that we got a puritan to join our peasant pile! Not only that, but she seemed to fancy me a bit, calling me "gorgeous" no less than three times in a span of about 30 seconds. Needless to say I was extremely flattered, I think my face had turned the color of many sunsets. That might have been the only reason why we got her to join us, but hey it worked right? Twas fun.

Even after we left the Faire itself (which we had stayed almost an extra hour after it was supposed to close and they almost had to literally kick us out) we didn't want the fun to end. So we put on some music in Becca's car and danced in the parking lot, as well as on top of Becca's car. ^_^ Some random guy noticed us and decided to join us (as well as hit on Becca, but that's besides the point), it was quite fun really. Once more a wonderful way to end another day at the Ren Faire!

    Saturday October 14th
This accounting actually begins the Friday evening before while my friend and I were online chatting about how much fun we had at the Faire last weekend and how much we'd love to go back. Lo and behold! we decide to go again. And quicker than you can say "ho hum diddly dum", we were once more gallivanting through the Faire.

We, of course, had to visit our favorite show again: The Bold and Stupid Men! And even though we had seen it previously, it was no less entertaining or humorous. We browsed in the shops, we watched people, we skipped around the Faire, we listened to the storyteller, Swiry hugged the Scarecrow, and we watched rather interesting games being played throughout the Faire. Nothing too momentous took place this time around at the Faire. We were both still very glad we went, but learned it is more fun with a bigger crowd.

All in all, it was another wonderful year of Ren Faire season. I believe I'm even more addicted to it now than I ever have been before though....
